What Is A Resident?
A resident is a doctor who has completed all of medical school and is pursuing further training in a specialty. All of our residents have chosen to pursue the specialty of Family Medicine
Are Residents Doctors?
Yes. All residents have graduated from medical school with doctoral degrees. They are physicians who are doing further training in the specialty of family medicine.
How do I make an appointment?
• Call 678-0100 and a patient representative will assist you.
• For each appointment you will need to bring:
· - Your insurance card
· - All medications you are taking (prescription and non-prescription)
• Call in advance if you are unable to make it to your appointment
• If you arrive more than 15 minutes late, you may need to be rescheduled.
Are same day appointments available?
Yes, but you must call before coming to the clinic. Our advice nurse will discuss your medical needs and schedule your appointment. Our same-day appointment slots are limited, so you are more likely to get an appointment if you call early in the day.
Can I speak directly to my doctor when I call?
We are unable to transfer calls directly to the providers, but we can deliver your message. Please Note: If your message is not urgent, it may take 48 - 72 hours for your message to be answered. However, if your message is urgent, and your physician is unable to take care of it in a timely manner, it will be forwarded to another physician
for immediate response.
When is the best time to call?
The best time to call is Tuesday through Friday, between the hours of 10 am and 3 pm.
How do I get a prescription filled?
To request a prescription refill, please contact
your pharmacy and have them fax your refill request
to (910) 678-0110. If you need a written
prescription refill, please call 678-0100, choose option '2' and leave a message on our prescription line. Make sure to include this information:
· •Name
· •Date of birth
· •Telephone number
· •Physician’s name
· •Name of the medicine requested
· •Dosage
· •Whether you want the prescription to be written or called in to your pharmacist
· •Your pharmacy’s name
· •Pharmacy’s location
· •Please allow up to 3 business days for your prescription to be prepared.
What number do I call in an emergency?
· If you have a medical emergency, please
call 911.For all other medical needs during office hours, call 678-0100 and ask to speak to the advice nurse.
· For after-hours or weekend emergencies, call 678-0100 and your call will be transferred to our answering service. A Family Medicine Center physician will return your call. If the physician does not call back within 15 minutes, please call 678-0100 and inform the answering service.
· Most insurance companies require that you first talk to our on-call physician before being seen in the Emergency Room or Minor Treatment Center in order for them to authorize and pay for the visit.
What if I need to be admitted to the hospital?
Patients from the Family Medicine Center who require hospitalization are admitted and treated at Cape Fear Valley Health System on Owen Drive, across the street from our clinic. You will receive separate bills from our clinic for your physician’s services and from Cape Fear Valley Medical Center for hospital laboratory, room, and other charges.
Do staff and providers have accurate information to contact me about appointments and test results?
Yes, but you need to help assure that our record of your contact information is current. Please check your address and phone number at each visit to make sure they are correct in our system. Please inform your provider about the best way to communicate test results to you. Results are usually returned to your physician within several days to a week. Then results will be conveyed to you by telephone or letter.
Will you bill my insurance?
Yes, but you need to help assure that our record of your insurance information is correct. Present your insurance card at each visit. This will help us verify that we have the correct information when filing your claims.
How are my charges paid?
Patients are responsible for payment of charges. Our business office will file your charges with your insurance company. However, you are responsible for any co-pay, co-insurances or deductibles, and we require that these be paid at the time of service. Any amounts not covered by insurance will be billed to the patient. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the payment of a bill, please call a billing representative at 678-0101. We will be happy to assist you with any questions or problems.
Do I need to schedule an appointment if I only need lab work or x-rays?
An appointment is not necessary but it is advised.
You may schedule and appointment by calling (910)
678-0100. You may come in between 8:30 and 11:30 pm or between 1:30 and 4:00 pm. However, a physician’s order for lab work or x-rays is required. When you arrive, let the receptionist know that you are here for lab work or x-rays.

678-0100. For flu shots, allergy shots, Depo-Provera shots, and blood pressure checks, come in between 8:30 and 11:30 am or between 1:30 and 4:00 pm. Note: Allergy and Depo-Provera shots require a physician’s order.
