THE SPECIALTY MEDICINE CENTER

To Make An Appointment
Call (910) 678-7287 or (910) 678-7221
Your primary care doctor’s office should call The Specialty Medicine Center to make your first appointment to see the specialist. This will allow us to understand the urgency of the appointment and to be sure we have all the necessary information at the time of your visit. Follow-up appointments can be scheduled either by you after the first appointment or by your doctor’s office.

For Each Appointment, Let Us Know…

  • Do we have your correct address and
    phone number?
  • Do we have a work number to contact
    you during the daytime?
  • Has your insurance coverage changed?
Please bring your card each visit!
  • What medicines are you taking?
    Please bring bottles.
  • Do you have any allergies?

Emergencies…
The specialists that you see in our facility are not here all the time and are not available at SR-AHEC to respond to emergencies. If you have a medical
emergency, call your regular doctor, call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room. If your doctor or the emergency room doctor needs information about your medical condition, they can call our facility at (910) 678-7287 during the Center’s hours:
Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
We will provide available information from the record or we will attempt to contact the specialist for information.

Prescription Refills…
Since the specialists are not in our facility all the time, it is best for you to get medication refills by calling your regular doctor. If that is not possible, you may call our nurse at (910) 678-7221 and she will tell you how to contact the specialist. Please allow at least two working days to contact the specialist and for prescriptions to be refilled.

Payment for Services…
The bill for the specialist’s services may come from Southern Regional AHEC, Duke University or the University of North Carolina
(depending on which clinic you attend). SR-AHEC, Duke and UNC will, as a courtesy to you, file your insurance whenever possible.
Co-payments are expected at check in. If you have questions about your bill from SR-AHEC, please call our billing office at (910) 678-0101.
