CONTINUING MEDICAL EDUCATION

Mission of Southern Regional Area Health Education Center CME Program

The Southern Regional AHEC CME mission is to provide quality continuing medical education in which content is based on the best available evidence structured to meet the needs of the nine county region’s physicians and other health care professionals. This is accomplished through a variety of learning experiences, including live conferences, clinical discussion, enduring materials, internet-based education, practice-based improvement activities, and others as needed. The expected results of the CME program are to maintain and enhance competence and performance of physicians in the nine county region, ultimately leading to improved patient outcomes.

The educational activities of the CME Program are provided to primary care physicians and other health care professionals in the SR-AHEC nine-county region.  Although the activities are targeted to primary care providers, content areas are addressed which help build physician practice capacity to cover specialty areas where a shortage exists.

The Southern Regional AHEC is accredited by the North Carolina Medical Society to provide continuing medical education for physicians.  All courses are accredited for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit ™.

The CME Program offers a variety of formats for delivering CME, from one-time events to performance improvement CME.

Are you interested in developing a CME program for physicians?  SR-AHEC can help plan and implement the program, either as a directly or jointly sponsored activity.  Please note the NCMS (North Carolina Medical Society) standards are rigorous regarding academic need and measurable outcomes.  A submitted application does not guarantee credit.  The CME staff will guide you through the application and planning process to ensure that NCMS expectations are met and to see if your proposed activity qualifies for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™.  Please contact us at least two months prior to your proposed activity, if interested in applying for CME credit and to learn more about pricing/costs.
