E-MENTORS FOR NURSING STUDENTS!!

Southern Regional AHEC has developed an Electronic Mentoring Program for Nursing Students (through a grant by the NC AHEC Program Office) in an effort to increase the retention of students in nursing school programs in our nine-county region.

This concept provides nursing students with a mentor RN who works (or may be retired from nursing) in any of the various roles in nursing, from Administration to Staff Nurse. Mentors provide individual guidance and resources by sharing their knowledge and advice with a student.

Mentor orientation will be available with an informational packet on mentoring and a short workshop for the mentors to attend.

The level of contact and time commitment is flexible. Mentor responsibilities will include (but not limited to): 1) at minimum bimonthly email contact with your mentee, 2) meet mentee at kick off reception, 3) attend Mentor/Mentee workshops and more contact is encouraged as time permits. Throughout the year we will offer mentor-mentee workshops for you to attend with your mentee on topics that would be of interest to both of you – i.e., Time Management, Stress Management, etc.
