This
longitudinal rotation will provide an overview of
pharmacy management to include: fiscal management,
budget forecasting, developing a management team,
legal requirements in pharmacy operations,
accreditation standards, professional standards,
leadership styles and building interdisciplinary
relationships. The resident will be given an
opportunity to become familiar with human resource
management issues such as recruitment, hiring,
disciplinary action, staff education, and conflict
resolution. Various hospital committee meetings and
projects will be made available for the resident’s
participation.
Resident Learning Activities

Read and discuss leadership books as selected by
the Pharmacy Director.

Review current budget information and discuss
variances and possible actions to be taken.

Participate in developing a 5-year budget plan.

Review JCAHO standards. Develop an action plan
for risk points.

Review actual physician issues and develop
action plans.

Discuss staffing levels and develop a plan of
action when a shortage of pharmacists occurs.
-
Develop strategies for maintaining and improving
interdisciplinary relationships.

Discuss HIPAA privacy regulations, ethical and
legal issues related to the use of information
technology

Review clinical intervention data

Review reports/data available to assist in
clinical decisions (formulary management and
clinical activities)

Evaluate potential for medication related errors
that occur as a result of technology.
