Service Component

A PGY1 resident will work as staff at Cape Fear Valley Health System in the impatient pharmacy every third weekend (16 hours).  Additionally, the resident will work in the inpatient pharmacy one eight hour shift every other week.  The resident will receive time off to compensate for this service component.  The resident is also required to provide volunteer pharmacy services at The CARE Clinic ( a free health clinic) one evening per month.

Teaching Opportunities

During the SR-AHEC/CFVHS residency, the resident will serve as a co-preceptor for pharmacy student from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, Campbell University and Wingate University Schools of Pharmacy.  The resident also has opportunities to teach a variety of health care professionals (pharmacists, physicians, medical residents, nurses) at other venues (i.e. staff education seminars, noon conference, continuing education programs).

The SR-AHEC/CFVHS PGY 1resident will serve as clinical instructor in the PY2 and PY3 Pharmaceutical Care Labs at the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Pharmacy. The resident will facilitate lab activities to include problem solving, IV admixture training, and device demonstrations. The resident will evaluate and provide feedback to the students regarding achievement of core competencies.

Research Component
The resident will design and complete a research project under the guidance of a project preceptor.  Project results are to be presented at the Southeastern Residency Conference (SERC) held in the spring
Compensation
The salary for the SR-AHEC/CFVHS PGY1 resident is $35,980.  The resident will receive medical and dental benefits through the SR-AHEC benefits program at no cost.  The SR-AHEC/CFVHS PGY1 resident receives 10 vacation/sick days, 11 paid holidays, and 10 days of professional education leave.  The resident also receives a professional fund to help cover expenses to the NC Residents' Conference, ASHP Midyear Meeting or equivalent national pharmacy meeting, SERC, and other meetings.  Membership to CFVHS HealthPlex is also included.
