The Infectious Diseases rotation is a month long, inpatient medicine elective rotation.  The resident will work closely with the ID physicians and the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program Coordinator.  The resident will have the opportunity to round with the ID consult service, monitor patients on that service, and participate in the outpatient clinic.  As part of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program, controlled and restricted antibiotics will be reviewed daily and recommendations left to optimize therapy regimens.

Resident Learning Activities

  1. Work within the guidelines of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program to review antibiotic regimens for appropriate use, streamlining opportunities, and IV to PO changes.

  2. Become familiar with procedures for pharmacist documentation, utilizing computerized intervention tracking, and trending the results.

  3. Participate in Microbiology Plate rounds.

  4. Attend Infection Control department meetings.

  5. Be an active member of the ID consult service, participate in rounds and monitor patients on that service.

  6. Review guidelines published by the IDSA and related EBM resources on resistance and pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics (PK/PD)
