Description
A graduate of a PGY1 pharmacy residency program
often engages in teaching opportunities either in
the clinical setting, in a formal didactic setting,
or with patients and family members. A residency
graduate should be prepared to accept a position
within clinical practice, industry or academics. As
part of the ASHP accreditation standards for PGY1
residencies (Outcome R5.1), the resident should be
able to provide effective medication and practice
related education, training, or counseling to
patients, caregivers, health care professionals, and
the public. To prepare the pharmacy resident for
these types of roles, the SR-AHEC /(Cape Fear Valley
Health Services (CFVHS) PGY1 Pharmacy Residency
Program is implementing a teaching certificate
program as part of the residency curriculum.
Resources at Fayetteville State University will
provide the didactic component for the certificate
program to be combined with the other requirements
of the teaching certificate program.
Residents must complete all assigned projects and
attend the majority (80%) of the seminars at
Fayetteville State University. Upon completion, the
resident will receive a certificate signed by the
Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.
Goal
To immerse the learner (pharmacy resident) in the
culture of higher education and to better equip them
as preceptors, teachers, scholars, and
professionals.
