  • Opportunities to work with Family Medicine faculty and upper level residents

Student Objectives

  • Demonstrate clinical skills necessary to obtain a focused history and physical exam on patients commonly encountered in a family medicine setting.
  • Determine differential diagnoses and select the most likely diagnosis for patients commonly encountered in a family medicine setting.
  • Select lab and x-ray studies necessary to diagnose clinical problems commonly encountered and know the cost of each.
  • Acquire a family medicine perspective of consultant selection and interaction.
  • Define and discuss the terms comprehensive, continuous, and cost effective as they relate to ambulatory care in family medicine

Educational Goals

  • Foster the development of advanced problem-solving skills and patient care efficiency.
  • Provide primarily ambulatory patient care experience in a family medicine center.
  • Care of the patient with common problems
  • Care of the patient with multiple and complicated problems
  • Didactic lectures and discussions
  • Observation and evaluation of laboratory and x-ray tests appropriate for patient care
  • Providing appropriate patient education and health promotional materials
  • Interaction with behavioral science faculty, as appropriate for patient care
  • Patient care experience in on-site specialty clinics
