Who can use SR-AHEC’s medical library?

Anyone may use SRAHEC’s medical library; however, our collection is geared to the needs of students preparing for health professions and to professionals in practice.  Much of our material is highly technical.   Our collection is not useful for most high school, middle school and elementary students.   We do have a small consumer health section and provide access to and assistance with the use of consumer health databases such as MedlinePlus.

Must I have a membership to use your library?

A membership is not necessary to USE the library.  However, those who wish to check out materials must complete an application and purchase a library card.  Library membership costs $20 (cash, check, Visa or MasterCard) and is good for one year.

How much does it cost to purchase an annual library membership?

$20.   We accept cash, checks, Visa and MasterCard.

What kind of materials are in your library?

Our collection consists of core textbooks and reference works in various medical disciplines, a large collection of current medical and nursing periodicals, a health careers section, and a reference collection.  We also have an audiovisual collection that includes VHS tapes, DVDs, audio recordings and models.

Where is your library?

Our library is located in the Southern Regional Area Health Education Center, which is at 1601 Owen Drive in Fayetteville, just across the street from Cape Fear Valley Hospital and CVS.  The library is in the front of the building closest to Owen Drive.  You may park in any visitor’s space.

What is the AHEC Digital Library?

The AHEC Digital Library is an innovative electronic library which is completely accessible from any Internet connected computer.  It includes full-text textbooks, journals, and numerous databases on a multitude of medical topics.  An annual subscription to the AHEC Digital Library provides access to over $25,000 worth of medical research materials.  For more information on the ADL go to
http://library.ncahec.net/membership.cfm?s=0

Who can purchase an ADL subscription?

The AHEC Digital Library is available to any interested medical professional, administrator, or student enrolled in a health care curriculum.  The ADL will be especially useful to non-traditional students who need access to high quality, full-text materials after normal business hours.

What if I need to print or make photocopies?

The library’s printers and photocopiers use copy cards.  The copy cards are purchased from a machine for a dollar deposit, and then more money can be added to the card.  The customer can either retain the card for further use or turn in the card and receive a refund at the conclusion of their visit.
