Friday, December 11, 2026 | 12 - 1 p.m. EST
This training is designed for SUD treatment providers, behavioral health professionals, counselors, and healthcare staff who support individuals with substance use disorders and can integrate HIV prevention into treatment services.
HIV and substance use disorders (SUDs) are closely linked, with having an SUD increasing the risk of contracting and transmitting HIV. SUD treatment programs, such as outpatient and residential services, play a key role in improving the well-being of individuals with SUD. However, not all of these SUD treatment facilities offer HIV prevention services. Since they are critical points of contact for high-risk populations, these facilities present an important opportunity to implement HIV prevention efforts. This training provides information to help treatment providers integrate HIV and SUD prevention services more effectively.

Ware has graduate-level training in behavioral pharmacology, epidemiology, public health and social work. His research focuses on substance use and substance use disorders. To this end, he has published over 70 peer-reviewed research articles covering topics of co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders, specialty services provided by addiction treatment facilities, and cat/dog exposures to drugs.
