

Basic IV Clinical Skills Workshop

Location: Southern Regional AHEC, 3rd Floor, Classroom A
RNs, LPNs, NPs, physicians, PAs, residents, paramedics, RN refresher nurse and all other healthcare professionals interested and licensed to administer IVs.
This hands-on IV clinical skills workshop gives participants a practical understanding of the core principles and techniques of intravenous (IV) therapy. It is designed to help healthcare professionals develop the skills needed to perform IV insertions safely, confidently, and effectively while supporting high-quality patient care.

Krystal Pendergraft-Horne, DNP, RN, FNP-C, CNE, is an Assistant Professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Nursing and a Family Nurse Practitioner with over 15 years of experience in emergency and acute care. She teaches undergraduate courses in health assessment and adult medical-surgical nursing and co-leads an interprofessional diabetes elective in collaboration with the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy, where nursing, pharmacy, and medical students learn together through innovative simulation-based experiences. Dr. Pendergraft-Horne was honored with the Anne Belcher Interprofessional Scholars Award (2025–2027) for her work advancing interprofessional education through diabetic simulation and received the Undergraduate Faculty Excellence Award from the BSN Class of 2024. Her teaching and presentations reflect her passion for equipping nurses with the confidence, compassion, and clinical judgment needed to manage diabetic emergencies and improve patient outcomes across care settings.
At the completion of this workshop, participants will demonstrate competency in performing safe and effective IV insertions using proper technique and aseptic principles.

Southern Regional Area Health Education Center is approved as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the North Carolina Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
