Target Audience

This program would benefit behavioral health and healthcare professionals who work with adults with ADHD, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, counselors, nurses, nurse practitioners, physicians, and other clinicians interested in evidence-based and mindfulness-based treatment approaches.


Program Description

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a chronic, lifelong disorder that can have a significant negative impact in multiple domains of life. Many adults with ADHD seek out treatment because of these effects, but can have a difficult time identifying treatment providers trained in such services. The goal of this training is to introduce and discuss a psychosocial interventions for ADHD in adulthood that has growing interest in clinical practice and increasing empirical support: mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs). This workshop will include an overview of the current empirical basis of MBIs for adults with ADHD and a description of a manualized MBI adapted for adult ADHD: Mindful Awareness Practices (MAPs).

Speaker

John Mitchell, PhD is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Duke University. He has been a member of the Duke Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Program since 2009 where he conducts the majority of his research and clinical work with a focus on ADHD. He has published over 90 peer-reviewed scientific articles, book chapters, and books, including a treatment manual of a mindfulness-based intervention for adults diagnosed with ADHD.


Objectives
  • Participants will be able to describe the MBI treatment outcome literature for adults with ADHD
  • Participants will be able to identify specific MBI strategies commonly practiced in clinical settings for adults with ADHD following a manualized program: Mindful Awareness Practices (MAPs)

NC Psychologists Category A: The program will provide 3.0 contact hours (category A) continuing education credit to NC Psychologists.

NBCC: Southern Regional AHEC has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 5362. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. Southern Regional AHEC is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs


Substitutes/Refunds/Transfers

• Cancellations must be in writing (email or mail).

• Registrants cancelling between two weeks and five full business days prior to the first day of the event are refunded at 70% of the registration fee subject to a minimum $25 cancellation fee.

• No refunds or credits will be given for cancellations received less than five full business days prior to the event.

• No refunds or credit will be given for no-shows.

• No vouchers will be issued in lieu of a refund.

• Transfers/substitute(s) welcome (notify in advance of the program).
