Program Description
Dental caries remains one of the most prevalent chronic diseases affecting both children and adults yet advances in research and technology are transforming how clinicians approach its prevention and treatment. This course explores innovative, evidence-based strategies for managing dental caries through early detection, risk assessment, and minimally invasive interventions. Participants will examine the evolving understanding of caries as a dynamic disease process and learn how to integrate preventive therapies, patient-centered education, and modern clinical techniques into everyday practice. By focusing on practical applications for both pediatric and adult populations, this program equips dental professionals with tools to enhance patient outcomes and support long-term oral health.

Speaker
Latrice Phillips, BS, RDH is a dedicated dental hygienist with more than 16 years of experience providing exceptional patient care. She currently practices in a private dental office in Cary, North Carolina, where she combines clinical expertise in preventive dental care with a strong commitment to patient education, comfort, and long-term oral health. In addition to her clinical responsibilities, Latrice serves as her practice’s OSHA Officer, helping ensure compliance with health and safety standards. She is passionate about staying current with advances in dental hygiene techniques, evidence-based practices, and professional standards to continually improve patient outcomes.
Objectives
- Describe the current evidence-based understanding of dental caries as a multifactorial and dynamic disease process.
- Apply caries risk assessment principles to guide clinical decision-making for pediatric and adult patients.
- Identify innovative and minimally invasive strategies for the prevention and management of early and advanced carious lesions.
- Incorporate patient-centered education and preventive interventions to support long-term caries control and improved oral health outcomes.

Credit Hours: 2.0 Participants must attend 100% of program time to receive credit.

Substitutes/Refunds/Transfers
• Cancellations must be in writing (email or mail).
• Registrants cancelling between two weeks and five full business days prior to the first day of the event are refunded at 70% of the registration fee subject to a minimum $25 cancellation fee.
• No refunds or credits will be given for cancellations received less than five full business days prior to the event.
• No refunds or credit will be given for no-shows.
• No vouchers will be issued in lieu of a refund.
• Transfers/substitute(s) welcome (notify in advance of the program).
