Target Audience
Novice practice manager as well as experienced practice managers of leader-providers who desire an overview of the
basics of medical practice management.
Program Description
The most successful medical practices are the ones that not only provide excellent care but also leverage data and technology to improve their services and generate additional revenue through participation in value-based programs.
Format
Recorded sessions are released on Mondays at 8:00 AM EST. (4/12, 4/19, 4/26, 5/3)

Week 1 Using Data-driven Insights to Improve Practice Management
1. Comprehend the fundamentals of data analytics.
2. Develop data analytic strategies by evaluating the different data tools and technologies practices can employ.
3. Develop key performance indicators to measure the success of your initiatives.
4. Develop effective communication strategies to share data insights with key shareholders.
Week 2 Optimizing the Use of Technology
1. Define Quadruple Aim.
2. Describe how technology can be used to improve population health and outcomes, patient experience, and care team well-being as well as to reduce costs and improve efficiency.
Week 3 Analyzing Workflows
1. Identify data tools and practices that can be used to evaluate the effectiveness of workflows.
2. Perform a structured workflow analysis with the goal of improving efficiency and customer satisfaction.
Week 4 Participating in Value-Based Programs
1. Define value-based healthcare and its implications for a medical practice’s bottom line.
2. Name tools, strategies and resources that support value-based healthcare.

Speakers
Dr. Jennifer Bigger (MSN, MNP) is Vice President of Quality Informatics and Specialty Clinics at Southern Regional AHEC where she holds the unique role of working with the clinical/support teams and faculty/residents on improving efficiencies, patient safety, and clinical outcomes in the Family Medicine and Specialty Clinics. She has a rich background spanning over 30 years, and has held multiple positions in teaching, continuing professional development, and quality improvement.
Mark Holmstrom (MS, CMP) is a QI Consultant and Practice Support coach at Mountain Area Health Education Center in Asheville and is a member of the NCAHEC Practice Support Team. He has a Master of Science in Health Administration from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives, and a Certified Medical Practice executive. He has extensive experience in physician practice operations, hospital operations, strategic planning, and process improvement. He enjoys assisting healthcare professionals in finding new and more efficient ways of providing high-quality and high-value healthcare.
Matt Johnson (BA, MA, MBA) has over 30 years of experience in the healthcare industry. He started out as a speech pathologist and ended up migrating into practice management. He is currently the Chief Administrative Office for Wake Internal Medicine Consultants, which won the NC Medical Group Practice Management Practice of the Year Award in 2015, and was honored as the NCMGMA Administrator of the Year in 2017. He is a past president and board member of NCMGMA and serves as a member of the Practice Management Academy Advisory Board and is a valued member of our Practice Manager Boot Camp Instructional team.
Chris Weathington (MHA) is Director of Practice Support at NC AHEC with previous leadership roles at UNC Health, NC Office of Rural Health and ECU Health. In Chris' current role, he leads a team of practice support coaches and staff to support practices with value-based care and practice management. Chris' expertise is in practice management, provider relations and recruitment, rural health system models, and clinical integration. Chris is a native Tar Heel from Winterville, North Carolina with a Masters in Health Administration and Bachelor of Science in Health Policy & Administration from UNC-Chapel Hill.
Credit
CEUs: .1 per contact hour
Participants must complete 100% of sessions by the end of the course AND complete a course evaluation to receive
credit.
Substitutes/Refunds/Transfers
• Cancellations must be in writing (email or mail).
• Registrants cancelling between two weeks and five full business days prior to the first day of the event are refunded at 70% of the registration fee subject to a minimum $25 cancellation fee.
• No refunds or credits will be given for cancellations received less than five full business days prior to the event.
• No refunds or credit will be given for no-shows.
• No vouchers will be issued in lieu of a refund.
• Transfers/substitute(s) welcome (notify in advance of the program).
