Program Description
Dental professionals must balance two critical responsibilities in everyday practice: maintaining a safe clinical environment and protecting patient privacy. This program provides an overview of key workplace safety requirements under OSHA and patient privacy protections established by HIPAA.
Designed specifically for dental offices, this session reviews practical strategies for preventing occupational hazards, managing exposure risks, maintaining proper infection control protocols, and safeguarding protected health information. Participants will gain a clearer understanding of compliance expectations, documentation requirements, and daily practices that help create a safe environment for both patients and dental team members while reducing regulatory risk.

Speaker
Latrice Phillips, BS, RDH is a dedicated dental hygienist with more than 16 years of experience providing exceptional patient care. She currently practices in a private dental office in Cary, North Carolina, where she combines clinical expertise in preventive dental care with a strong commitment to patient education, comfort, and long-term oral health. In addition to her clinical responsibilities, Latrice serves as her practice’s OSHA Officer, helping ensure compliance with health and safety standards. She is passionate about staying current with advances in dental hygiene techniques, evidence-based practices, and professional standards to continually improve patient outcomes.
Objectives
- Identify key OSHA standards that apply to dental settings, including bloodborne pathogen protection, hazard communication, and workplace safety practices.
- Describe the core requirements of HIPAA related to protecting patient health information in dental practices.
- Recognize common compliance risks in dental offices and implement strategies to reduce workplace hazards and privacy violations.
- Apply best practices for OSHA and HIPAA compliance in daily dental office operations, including documentation, staff training, and patient communication.

Credit Hours: 3.0 Participants must attend 100% of program time to receive credit.

Substitutes/Refunds/Transfers
• Cancellations must be in writing (email or mail).
• Registrants cancelling between two weeks and five full business days prior to the first day of the event are refunded at 70% of the registration fee subject to a minimum $25 cancellation fee.
• No refunds or credits will be given for cancellations received less than five full business days prior to the event.
• No refunds or credit will be given for no-shows.
• No vouchers will be issued in lieu of a refund.
• Transfers/substitute(s) welcome (notify in advance of the program).
