Our 20th annual school nurse conference is designed to address health care topics that our school nurses are challenged with every day. Network with colleagues from across the state, as well as meet with exhibitors to learn about products and services that are useful in your specialty area.

Speakers

John Lesica, MD


John Lesica, MD is a board certified child psychiatrist who has practiced in our community for almost 30 years. He is currently the Medical Director of Behavior Health at Womack Army Medical Center. He received his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine. He has completed a pediatric residency, adult psychiatry residency and a child psychiatric fellowship at Tripler Army Medical Center prior to moving to our community in 1992. He specializes in child and adolescent psychiatry.

Melissa Overton, BSN, RN


Melissa Overton, BSN, RN is the CEO and principle trainer for MedicalTraining.me PLLC in Smithfield, North Carolina. She is a graduate of East Carolina University and a critical care nurse turned entrepreneur. After 20 years in healthcare as an ER nurse, Nurse Educator and ICU nurse, she took her experiences and formed her own continuing education company. Melissa leads the way in her company as a Training Center Facility for AHA and ASHI programs, as well as, an instructor for TNCC and ENPC. She is also a speaker, trainer and coach for the John Maxwell Team, a world known brand for leadership development. She firmly believes in collaboration and networking, working together to build each other up, thus creating success for us all.

Travis Greer, BS


Travis Greer, BS is currently the Region 6 Tobacco Control Manager serving ten counties in the Sandhills Region of North Carolina. At the young age of ten, Travis became a Master Crappie Fisherman and a privilege that came along with that was the right to chew tobacco at will. He went on to receive his bachelor’s degree at the University of North Carolina Wilmington in Community Health Education. In 2019, Travis graduated from the North Carolina Medical Society Emerging Leaders Program. He has worked in public health for ten years at the local and regional working on policy, systems, and environmental change related to chronic disease and tobacco use.

Jenifer Simone, MSN, RN, NCSN


Jenifer Simone, MSN, RN, NCSN is a School Health Nurse Consultant for the North Carolina Division of Public Health.  She completed her undergraduate nursing education at DePaul University in Chicago and her graduate work in Nursing Systems and Populations at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.  She has 26 years of pediatric experience, specializing in emergency nursing before transitioning to school health.  Jenifer is passionate about school health and is committed to promoting health equity and improving the well-being of children, families and communities in North Carolina

Andrea Biondi, DNP, NNP, CPNP, RN


Andrea Biondi, DNP, NNP, CPNP, RN, received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from University of California, her Pediatric NP from UNC, her Neonatal NP post masters from East Carolina, and then her Doctorate of Nursing from the University of South Alabama. She has over 30 years of pediatric experience - 16 years as a Pediatric NP and 14 years as a Neonatal NP. Andrea is currently a part-time clinical instructor at UNC School of Nursing in the NP program, a Neonatal NP in the NICU at Womack Army Medical Center, and works at Tots-N-Teens in Cary, North Carolina.

Justin Schwartz, MBA, BS, NREMT


Justin Schwartz, MBA, BS, NREMT is the Training Center Specialist for Southern Regional AHEC. For the last 15 years, he has been involved in many areas of science, medicine, and education including chemical and data analytic research, civilian and combat emergency and primary care, and university and one-on-one teaching. His lifelong goal is to instill aplomb, knowledge, and a love of learning in students so that they can achieve their full potential.
