Target Audience

This program is designed for care managers, caregivers, family members, and professionals supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and dual diagnoses. Content focuses on care coordination, person-centered planning, behavioral support, and informed decision-making across the lifespan.

Program Description

This intensive two-hour virtual session explores the critical intersection of trauma-informed care (TIC) and person-centered planning (PCP) for individuals with IDD and dual diagnoses. Participants will move beyond traditional service coordination to understand how trauma manifests as "behavior" and learn to prioritize the individual’s voice in the recovery process. The training places a heavy emphasis on the ethical responsibilities of the care manager, specifically regarding the "dignity of risk" versus safety, and the power dynamics inherent in managing care for vulnerable populations across the lifespan.

Registration Fee

Registration Fee: $30

Objectives
  • Synthesize the principles of trauma-informed care with person-centered planning to create a holistic support framework for individuals with IDD and comorbid mental health conditions.
  • Identify and address the ethical complexities of care management, including balancing the individual's right to self-determination with the duty to ensure safety (The Dignity of Risk).
  • Apply trauma-responsive communication and screening strategies to improve service delivery and reduce re-traumatization for both children and adults.
