North Carolina faces a critical shortage of healthcare professionals. To meet this challenge, the NC AHEC System, in partnership with the NC Center on the Workforce for Health, is leading efforts to develop sustainable workforce programs and strengthen the healthcare talent pipeline. At Southern Regional AHEC, we are working with healthcare organizations, schools, and community partners to create innovative, targeted solutions that expand opportunities for future healthcare professionals across our region. Through the Health Talent Alliance, we use the U.S. Chamber Foundation’s Talent Pipeline Management® (TPM) framework to connect education and training directly to employer needs. This approach helps fill high-demand healthcare roles and ensures North Carolina’s workforce is ready to deliver quality care today and, in the years ahead.
Understanding Workforce Needs
We study regional healthcare trends to identify where staffing shortages exist and future skill needs. By understanding these needs, we help ensure every community has access to the care and services it deserves.
Building Strong Talent Pipelines
Using the Talent Pipeline Management® (TPM) approach, we connect education and training programs with healthcare employers’ workforce needs, helping students and job seekers step confidently into in-demand careers.
Education and Training Opportunities
We partner with leading institutions, to provide hands-on training, professional development, and continuing education for current and future healthcare professionals.
Supporting Career Growth and Retention
We create programs that attract new healthcare talent to the region and help current professionals grow in their careers, stay engaged, and thrive in their roles.
Collaboration and Partnerships
By working closely with hospitals, clinics, schools, and community organizations, we build a strong, coordinated healthcare workforce that meets the needs of our region today and tomorrow.
